2006 Toyota 4Runner Road Test Ratings

Good both on and off-road, the Toyota 4Runner, with its comfortable interior is an excellent compromise for drivers who require extreme versatility.

The 4Runner's truck based chassis works well on and off-road. An available V8 provides impressive performance.

The driving position is a bit compromised by a high floor. But comfortable seats and an above-avrage truck-based SUV ride more than make up for it.

The four-wheel drive system is accessed via a dash-mounted rotary knob. Most of the other controls are well placed, but the A/C controls are compromised by styling considerations. Rear seat comfort and space are good.

Build quality is excellent. Styling, however, while not ugly, has some awkward details.
