2006 Toyota 4Runner Sport Edition 4dr SUV 4WD (4.0L 6cyl 5A)

Review

Although I've only own this SUV for 4 months, I must say this is probably the best SUV I've owned so far. (I've had a 95 Jeep Grand and 07 Honda Element.) I originally thought the XREAS suspension was some hokey-pokey nonsense but after driving my friends 05 SR5. WOW, what a difference. this thing has plenty of power, the interior is almost as quiet as my sister's 08 RX350, I love the black interior, the power seats are comfortable. I can go on raving about this SUV for hours but I'll just keep it short. Bottom line, go drive one and experience this great SUV for yourself!

Favorite Features

Just about everything. Aux jack, powerful v6 motor, sunroof, super quiet interior, Toyota reliability, I can go on forever.

Suggested Improvements

This is my only complaint about this SUV: seriously Toyota, why did you guys put the window control where it is? it is the most annoying/awkward location ever!!!

2006 Toyota 4Runner Sport Edition 4dr SUV (4.0L 6cyl 5A)

Review

We ordered our 4Runner from Japan because we couldn't buy a Sport Edition with GPS navigation off a dealer's lot. We also added 4WD. The car rides and handles great. ZERO mech. probs. Powerful V6 with decent economy. You really don't need the V8. The 4WD and off-road stability systems are amazing. I used them in a rare snow & ice storm in the Chisos Mtns in Big Bend National Park and was amazed at this SUV's sure-footedness. A few quibbles: Front cupholders stink. Must contort arms & hands to reach window and door lock switches on doors. Tire pressure and oil change idiot lights are annoying to reset. Overall, though, we LOVE this SUV. Even $4 gas can't persuade us to part with it!

Favorite Features

GPS navigation and premium sound system is worth the bucks! Sport Edition trim package looks and handles best. 110v AC power adaptor in center console is very handy for plugging in standard 2-prong, electrical devices without having to use a cigarette lighter jack adapter. iPod jack is cool too!

Suggested Improvements

Toyota can't seem to get the front cupholders right. They stunk on my 98 4Runner and on this one too! Why can't they get this small detail right?! Interior door armrests need to be re-designed so that it's easier to reach the controls on the door without contorting our forearms and hands.

Review

This car is amazing! Smooth rides, great handling, an all-a-round do everything car. Towing is exceptional (towed a 6x12 trailer for 2000 miles and didn't even notice it). Off road would be fun, but my wife won't let me take her car off road. I want another for myself. One person said the low-preasure light for the tire comes on. I found it to be the spare tire. All the other tires get checked and the spare gets forgotten. Toyota even has a sensor on the spare... way cool, but don't forget it or the light will bug you.

Favorite Features

I love the internal computer that gives the fuel economy and range of the gas tank. I also like the electronic 4x4 switch, it makes things very easy.

Review

I've taken the car everywhere. From my first 2000 miles where I towed from TX to ID, to me taking it off-road or driving in some serious snow, this vehicle has done it all for me. And everything without a single problem

Favorite Features

I absolutely loved the towing capabilites of it. It really handled well going up hills without having to constantly shift to a lower gear. The gas mileage for an SUV... you can't beat it.

Suggested Improvements

I say make the towing package standard on this baby. I ended up getting a after market one put on.

Review

If your looking for an SUV, Look no further. Toyota 4Runner is the way. Bought mine a few days ago. Used 2006, 25000 miles. This truck has everything and more a person can want. I checked out the Nissan Pathfinder and the Dodge NITRO. Was not impressed with either. The 4Runner Sport Edition has not only the looks, but the engine is smooth and the JBL sound system is awesome. Also came with a camera in the rear view mirror so when you back up, you can see if anyone is behind you. Will write another review in 6 months or so. Don't delay, get your 4Runner today!

Favorite Features

JBL sound system, cup holders, silver exterior paint

Suggested Improvements

Honestly, really can't think of any. Just simply flawless.

Review

I have had this car just a little over a year and I absolutely LOVE IT as much today as I did when I bought it. It drives so easily. I say it drives "electric" because that's the only way I can describe it. I have not had any trouble with my 4Runner at all except for that stupid tire pressure light coming on, especially when it's cold outside. However, it's been on ever since I took it to the dealership 2 weeks ago. That seems to just be some problem Toyota can't seem to fix.

Favorite Features

Heated seats, sunroof, radio controls on steering wheel, bright headlights, easy folding back seats, tight suspension, rubber floor mats.

Suggested Improvements

Either make the tire pressure light work or just get rid of it. I am so paranoid that one of my tires is going flat at all times.

Review

I love this truck, it's a true Toyota. I can't wait to go off road. The V-8 is awesome and smooth as glass.

Favorite Features

I love the 4.7 engine and smooth acceleration. Towing capacities are also great, this is a true truck and not a car like wantabe.

Suggested Improvements

Ability to disengage 4WD.

Review

Never have been a material person, but I love this car! I was looking at crossovers and wagons for MPG, and handling, but forgot it all when I test drove this Toyota. The MPG is typical though. But the handling is smooth and if you like bigger cars, as fun as any sports car you can get. I took it off road for fun, and as inexperienced as I am, I thought I pushed it too far at one point, but... put in the low gear, and I was out of a muddy, five-feet-deep river bed. Also, for everyday, the cargo shelf in the back is great when you want to hide some things and still be able to load via the window.

Favorite Features

Drive quality for a truck. As bought, off-road is amazing!creature comforts pretty much leave you with nothing wanting.

Suggested Improvements

The key-chain button has an option to open the rear window, which is nice, but you can't close it with the same mechanism: kind of makes it a hassle again. Being PICKY, the small cargo space in front of the cup-holders is cheap, and poibtless.

Review

Well, what did I expect? It's a truck, after all- and it drives like one. I was used to car-frame SUVs, and must say I miss their agility and ability to handle curves without slowing down to 25 mph! Mine is top of the line, but it feels cheap inside. I've also been used to German vehicles, and have learned that once you're used to that level of quality, it's hard to retreat to the Japanese style of imprecise steering and general loosey-gooseyness in the handling department. Affordability is excellent, but next time I'll definitely go back to a German vehicle that makes driving a pleasure, not something that must simply be endured.

Favorite Features

It's been totally, mechanically problem-free.

Suggested Improvements

Upgraded interior appearance and hardware. Stiffer seats with better quality leather. Firmer handling would be fabulous.

Review

I traded in my new Subaru v6 due to the fact that I wanted better pulling power and room. This SUV is terrific, the only thing I wish I would have waited for was finding a non limited with the JBL system! Standard one stinks! But now have in dash dvd nav with custom sub built in rear and all new speakers with full ipod integration. But JBL would have been a lot nicer. 22,000 miles now, and no issues with this vehicle, it is a true beast in snow and the power of this thing makes you feel like your driving a sports car! Love it!

Favorite Features

Power, best 4wd system with driver controlled choices! Rear window that does down, ride is good for SUV.

Suggested Improvements

Tubular bars when getting out of truck mess up your pants majorly in bad weather, not good for anyone wearing business clothes. Have JBL on more non limited models.
