2006 Scion xA 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 4A)

Review

My last 3 cars have been 2 BMW Z3's and a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire Roadster. I sold the last car and and bought this car. My wife and I LOVE it. It's fun, practical, dependable and I don't feel ripped off. I was skeptical at first but I can't get over how much I nejoy this car. Granted it's no 2 seater roadster but with gas prices the way they are it's smarter to drive one of these.

Favorite Features

I am saving $115 per month on gas and car insurance after switching from the 2005 Crossfire. Unreal!

Suggested Improvements

Just a tad more power would be sweet. I bought the cold air intake to help there.

2006 Scion xA 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 4A)

Review

Seat comfort, storage capacity, fun factor, and economy of the xA are all outstanding. It has two major design faults though. 1. The "cold start" process keeps the vehicle in a lower gear for far too long when the engine is cold. This forces the rev's to go far beyond what we have learned to be prudent. The automatic transmission will also not go into 4th speed (overdrive) until the engine has reached the "warm" status. The only practical alternative to prevent engine over-reving into the 2.5K range when it is cold is to let it run for 5 min in the driveway. This defeats the entire purpose! 2. The auto transmission needs a 5th gear. 70 mph needs 3,000 plus rpm on level ground. Still, this is a great little car...I love it!

Favorite Features

The economy, loads of space, and "fun factor."

Suggested Improvements

It needs some design upgrades. (see text above)

2006 Scion xA 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 5M)

Review

This car is an excellent value with style and comfort. We chose it over the Honda Fit and other 4 door hatch models. There has been too much criticism about the lack of power and ride comfort. While a few more HP would be welcome, this car's performance is well beyond adequate with a ride we believe to be comfortable. If considering one, take it for a ride rater than relying on what we believe was a lazy review by Consumer Reports. CR seemed to mail in a review of a 2004 model.

Favorite Features

The car is just solid in all areas. Style, comfort, economy and performance. Edmunds rated it as one of its lowest true cost to own vehicles for it's class. This involved insurance cost, fuel economy, maintenance, and resale value...

Suggested Improvements

Make floor mats standard. Come-on now, all cars should come standard with floor mats! Does Toyota or Honda really need the extra $15 it costs to produce them?

2006 Scion xA 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 4A)

Review

The xA makes an excellent second car. It has easy access, great visibility and a high seat position. Its sound system rivals the one in my Avalon. It has smooth shifting up and down. Its overall gas consumption is currently at 32+mpg around town. The air conditioning can "run you out." This is a really fun car to drive!

Favorite Features

We are senior citizens and the ease of access as well as reasonable gas mileage and reliability are important to us. It's everything an SUV is not.

Suggested Improvements

The black interior and carpet shows everything.

2006 Scion xA 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 4A)

Review

I wanted a car for two things. One, to transport my tools in the back with easy access, and good gas milage! With the Scion xA I got both. The mileage being what I expected at 28 mpg driving like a bank robber to 38 mpg once on the parkway. It is generally around 35 mpg. The three things I wouldn't buy a car without are air conditioning, power windows, and a great radio. The Scion had all three although I opted for the XM. As for the power, they are not charging the money for the car that speed costs so I didn't have any issues with the power. I don't recommend that you pass anyone without a long range of open highway. I would gladly buy this car again. I have just about 20,000 miles on mine after 9 months of ownership.

Favorite Features

The radio, gas mileage, looks, and handling.

Suggested Improvements

A better turn off headlight warning. I'm always leaving mine on.

Review

I love this car! When I bought it I was unsure about the shape but have found it to be very user friendly. You can fit more in the back with the seats up than you would think. You do not have to worry about gas consumption either. The xA is a very comfortable car for a family.

Favorite Features

The steering wheel controls for the radio.

2006 Scion xA 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 5M)

Review

The average gas mileage for my xA at 2,100 miles is 35.8. I keep it at 65 mph for the most part. This car is comfortable enough for my 55 mile drive to work. I would recommend this car to anyone.

Favorite Features

The great gas milage and long standard equipment list,

Suggested Improvements

It needs a six speed or a higher 5th gear. Its gas milage goes down quickly over 65 MPH.

2006 Scion xA 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 4A)

Review

This is my first new car and I am loving it. After hearing hundreds of horror stories about the whole car buying process, I was genuinely surprised at how fast and easy it was to buy a Scion. The dealership was amazing and they took care of everything. I love driving this little titan around. I always get the same reaction when I show it off; first, people usually chuckle at how small it is, but once inside, they always say the same thing "wow." The interior is stylish and roomy (it makes grocery shopping and laundry days a cinch). It handles well and drives smoothly. And it just looks so cool!

Favorite Features

The design is amazing! The hatchback makes running errands very convinient (laundry, groceries, etc). I like the high seating level and the car's smooth and responsive handling (this thing turns on a dime).

Suggested Improvements

Side airbags should be standard, as well as cruise control and keyless entry. Also, it needs more storage room (an extra compartment in the front cabin would be great).

2006 Scion xA 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl 4A)

Review

The xA is a great car if you are looking for a small vehicle to zip around in and it has great mileage. It is so hard to find a little 2 door hatchback like the ones that we all grew up with, but this fits the mold. I had a 2 door RAV4 and miss it terribly, but this is kinda like a little SUV. It is small, but but fits quite a bit of stuff for a single or couple.

Favorite Features

I like the size and gas mileage. The best color is the black cherry, I get a lot of compliments. The stereo system is great. I like the various features of increasing sound from hearing to "feeling." Insurance is inexpensive on it as well.

Suggested Improvements

I would love to have a sunroof or moonroof, prefer a dial for the radio instead of the push button volume, and would like a 2 door model.
