MOSCOW — Remember this name: Vladimir Filatov. He's the Russian university design student who created this funky little as-yet-unnamed crossover as part of a student competition sponsored by AvtoVAZ, the Russian parent of Lada.

Filatov's design for a four-passenger, all-wheel-drive crossover vehicle was cited for its originality and "confidence" and was mocked up by AvtoVAZ as a full-scale model. It is being displayed here at the 2008 Moscow Auto Show.

The competition was jointly sponsored by AvtoVAZ, the Russian Designers Union and the Russian Car Engineers Association. The company said it received more than 70 entries from industrial design students at such institutions as Moscow State Technical University, St. Petersburg State Polytechnic University, St. Petersburg State Art and Industry Academy, Ural State Architecture and Arts Academy and Togliatti State University.

Filatov is a student at S.G. Stroganov Moscow State Art and Industry University.

What this means to you: Don't expect to see a Lada-badged production version of this vehicle anytime soon, unless fuel prices really go through the roof. — Paul Lienert & Tai Adelaja, Correspondents
