With the fall season fast approaching, you're probably either getting ready for school, the football season or heading out to snag all the latest new fashions. Around here, fall means the official start of the auto show season, and this year it kicked off with the biannual Frankfurt International Motor Show.

As you might expect, the biggest news came out of the German camps, with no less than six all-new models making their debut. BMW reintroduced its 6 Series coupe along with an all-new X3 SUV while Mercedes rolled out the production version of its SLR supercar as well as an intriguing new CLS sedan that's sure to turn some heads. Volkswagen unwrapped the fifth-generation Golf in addition to a long-wheelbase version of its Phaeton luxury sedan. Last but not least, Porsche unveiled three new versions of the 911 along with a V6-powered Cayenne.

The Germans weren't the only ones making news in Frankfurt, however, as several other foreigners took advantage of Frankfurt's international stage to make a few debuts of their own. Aston Martin revealed the successor to its long-running DB7, dubbed the DB9, featuring an all-aluminum structure that will be used on all of its forthcoming models. Fellow Ford stepchildren Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo made news with the unveiling of the X-Type wagon, refreshed Freelander and all-new S40 sedan, respectively.

A few surprises and a number of wild concepts also made an appearance this year. Check below to see all the latest from the first big show of the 2003-2004 season.
